Before We Invest Billions in This Clean Fuel, Let’s Make Sure It’s Actually Clean
Last summer, the U.S. Congress passed the most ambitious climate law to date. A tax credit for “clean hydrogen” that could potentially transform the U.S. energy system. The provision has to do with how hydrogen is produced: Hydrogen projects must draw on nearby new clean power. The Treasury Department will most likely subsidize only new clean energy projects that create hydrogen on site. Natural hydrogen is the biggest opportunity to meet all of these characteristics.
