The Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 provides a number of clean energy subsidies, including a 10-year production tax credit (PTC) for “clean” hydrogen. The base credit amount equals $0.60 per kilogram of hydrogen withn lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions of less than 0.45 kilograms of CO2e per kilogram, but can go up to $3 if certain conditions are met. This bill could well be the deciding factor in the emergence of the hydrogen economy over the following decade.
