Natural Hydrogen

South Australia has a favorable geology for natural hydrogen and is leading the way in terms of regulation. In February 2021, South Australia expanded its oil regulations to allow drilling for hydrogen, and a third of the state is already covered by natural hydrogen exploration permits. A diversity of hydrogen plays in South Australia will be explored and evaluated through Petroleum Exploration License work programs over the next five years, helping to increase understanding of this new source of energy.
